Access zones

Radiation protection areas (NE-zones) of HEST are NE03, NE05 and NE08.

Access system in HEST is ZKS (Zuganaskontrollsystem).

The main radiation sources:

BIORAMS

These are the detectors used to measure neutron flux and trigger an alarm if the flux is too large. They are placed outside the caves. The alarm level is 3 muSv/h.

Activation

The zones with main activation are:

1. SIS18 extraction region
2. GTS3MU1

Before a piece of equipment can be removed from controlled area, it must be measured for activation (by radioprotection group) AND another measurement, more precise, of the radiation spectrum must be done. For the second measurement the contact person is Philipp Kewes.
